Session #2: How Photographs help in Diagnosis, Treatment Planning, and Liability

Thursday, February 23
6:00pm to 9:00pm

Dentists may or may not take photographs of their patients on a regular basis. Some dentists have dedicated photograph stations or areas for capturing the desired photographs. Orthodontists are a great example of this.

But many dentists do not take photos of all the potential problems a patient may have. Problems that can seriously torpedo treatment and when undiagnosed place the Dentist and their practice in peril.

Speakers:

Dr. Curtis Westersund

Photographs not only help set the dentist apart from the competition; it shows the patient care of the health of their teeth as well as their entire health. Simple photograph protocol can raise the feeling of professionalism in the patient’s eyes. An impressed patient is more loyal, more apt to refer friends and family, and more likely to accept treatment recommendations. In addition to helping your standing and patient relationship, photographs can show the dentist and the patient potential health problems, many which will affect successful dental treatment options.

If you want to do aesthetic veneers for a patient, would it be valuable to know ahead of time the issues that may cause those veneers to fail? If you were to restore teeth with crowns or implants, would you not want to know the obstacles that patient is having with such treatment? And one final thing. Have any dentists had a patient that comes in without a body? Have you ever had Mrs. Jones send her head into you in a hat box? Silly right? But Mrs. Jones may have issues with her body that will not only affect her own health but dictate the problems you have in treating her.

A photographic protocol and an explanation of what you want to be looking for can provide many benefits to the dentist about to start their day. As well, a proper set of photographs can be built into a full and complete informed consent that is required by our profession with proof of issues that were present prior to any treatment. This can be a great resource in any case of liability.

Learning Objectives

  1. How good photos can be great photos
  2. The simple camera we all have in our pockets
  3. A photographic protocol that goes beyond just the teeth
  4. Diagnosing from a set of photographs
  5. How a proper diagnosis will affect your treatments
  6. Protect yourself from professional or legal liability and give a complete informed consent.

Join us, learn how all dentist can “up their game” and make their day less problematic and more profitable, all while doing providing dental care

Session #6: Comprehensive Dentistry Using the T-Scan™ A Major Advance for Doctors and Patients

Thursday, June 22
6:00pm to 9:00pm

Occlusion is a complex neurologic science that involves the interplay between the teeth, the muscles, and the temporomandibular joints. Occlusion, however, is taught biomechanically, absent of true interocclusal functional measurements of the occlusal force and timing of the contacts that affects patient’s neurologic health and comfort every time they use their teeth. The T-Scan™ system makes it possible to precisely control the occlusal forces and timing with natural teeth, dental implants, and prosthodontic restorations.

Speakers:
Dr. Ben Sutter Image (no name)
Dr. Ben Sutter

The T-Scan offers patients predictably improved outcomes, while minimizing the common fallout of a dentist’s lack of occlusal measurement; and the repeated post-prosthetic insertion occlusal adjustments that don’t resolve the patient’s comfort issues, despite the dentist’s best efforts. This course will illustrate how employing occlusal measurement technology, and an evidence-based digital approach to occlusion, helps dentists provide lasting, comfortable, and successful treatments for patients in everyday clinical practice.

Learning Objectives:

  1. How T-Scan, by measuring occlusal contact forces and timing, has revolutionized day-to-day occlusal dentistry, offering both dentists and patients occlusal outcome predictability.
  2. Discover the real limitations of using articulating papers, and why intraoral scanner occlusion does not replace using T-Scan at prosthetic insertions.
  3. How to record good T-Scan data and how to use that data to make targeted occlusal corrections.
  4. A review of important scientific studies and evidence to support the routine use of digital occlusion technology, and what the research means to your patients.

Common complications in restorative, cosmetic, and implant dentistry – a review of many clinical cases and how to digitally diagnose and treat common occlusal problems.
