MEET THE EDUCATORS

Dr. Curtis Westersund

Dr. Westersund is a general dentist at Dentalife in Calgary whose practice is limited to the treatment of Temporo Mandibular Disorders (TMD) with a Biomechanical Approach. He holds a Mastership within, and is the current president of, the International College of Cranio-Mandibular Orthopedics (ICCMO). He is certified in the practice of Sleep dentistry by the University of Alberta. He has been published in the T-scan Handbook, in Cranio-The Journal of Craniomandibular & Sleep Practice and numerous other Journals. Dr. Westersund is an online professor for the Neuromuscular Orthodontics Mastership at the Jaume I University in Castellón de la Plana, Spain. He has helped dentists throughout the countries of Canada, USA, Russia, India, Germany, Japan, Brazil and many others about the treatment and communication of TMD using a physiologic approach with biometrics tools.

Dr. Jeffrey Scholten

After earning a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 1996 from the University of Calgary, Jeff continued his studies at Palmer College of Chiropractic graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2001. Wanting to know as much as possible about the upper neck, he completed his post-graduate advanced training in Chiropractic Craniocervical Junction Procedures in 2015’s inaugural class earning his DCCJP. In 2016, he was the first diplomate to complete a fellowship in Chiropractic Craniocervical Junction Procedures earning his FCCJP. Jeff then went on to a post-baccalaureate graduate-level certificate program in Pain Management in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Alberta, graduating in 2018.

Geoff Dakin

Geoff Dakin is a Registered Massage Therapist in Calgary who has been working in the acute injury/chronic pain treatment and athletic training field since 1989. He has 7 years of college and university training as well as countless hours of post-graduate continuing education. In 1991/92 Geoff worked and travelled in the National Hockey League as a member of the training staff of the Vancouver Canucks. In terms of his manual therapy, Geoff is primarily a Neuromuscular Therapist. He has found Neuromuscular Therapy to be an effective system for decreasing chronic muscle shortening, trigger points and pain. However, even the very best hands-on therapy is of limited value if not combined with a system of exercise that re-educates joint positioning and overall postural alignment. When a corrective exercise program is properly designed for you and faithfully carried out every day, your muscle balance and function is improved, and pain is diminished or eliminated. Geoff prescribes each patient’s corrective exercise program based on a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s unique alignment and movement patterns. There are neuromuscular therapists and there are corrective exercise experts, but very few practitioners combine these approaches well.

Dr. Duncan Brown

After 45 years of traveling between offices in Calgary, Canmore, and Okotoks, Duncan is presently concentrating his clinical efforts in Canmore. He is blessed with key administrative and clinical Team Members, and joined him in this new adventure. Teaching others is a passion. Duncan is grateful to be able to teach Orthodontists in North America, South America, Europe, and Northern Africa. Recently Duncan accepted a position to serve with Dr Jim Moorish as co-chair in a graduate Orthodontic in a private University in the United States.
